Do I need to be muslim in order to get the Halal Certification?
Nope. Any manufacturer can apply halal certification once they follow the guideline and completing the appropriate documents. Once the manufacturer gets approval from Halal certifier institution. Every food manufacturer/ food premises/ abattoir must only produce/ manufacture/ sell halal products only.
How long does it take to apply Halal Certification?
For local applications, it does not take more than 60 working days after payment is received on condition that the applicant adheres to all requirements and procedures of the halal certification.
Do I need to renew the certificate and pay the fee every year?
Yes! One year or two years certification duration depending on different Certification Body. Submission of Halal certification for renewal process should be submitted at least 3 months before the expiry date along with a complete application form and other relevant documents.
Can I sell alcohol after my restaurant received halal certification
The current Halal Certification granted by the Islamic Trustee is divided into three categories:
- Halal Certified Restaurant
- Halal Kitchen Restaurant
- Halal Friendly Restaurant
Except for Halal Certified Restaurants, the other two categories are allowed to sell alcoholic beverages. However, it is essential to ensure that there is no cross-contamination between Halal and non-Halal items during food preparation.
